Athene Gouws

B.Com, MBA.

Pointbreak Holdings SA

Athene manages Pointbreak Talent, specialists in sourcing and retaining quality staff.

Athene joined Pointbreak after working in financial services in HR and Transactional Banking for Standard Bank and Nedbank respectively where she picked up valuable experience in organisational structures, understanding business flows and the alignment of talent or people to business strategy.

Athene has two children, Ashleigh and Ryan. She enjoys camping, spending time with the children and time spent in the kitchen. Athene is also involved in a community project in Melkbosstrand, assisting school children in Atlantis with transport and feeding programmes.

Daneel van der Walt

B.Acc., B.Acc.(Hons), M Com.(Tax), CA (SA).

Daneel completed his articles at Arthur Andersen in 1994. He gained 8 years of valuable experience in corporate finance, debt placements and unlisted investments at Mettle.

Daneel is a founding member and joint chairman of Pointbreak, which he joined on a full time basis in 2003.

Santie and Daneel have 3 sons and a daughter and love spending time together. The family values a positive and balanced approach to life. The "space" that they seek and share together is "...where one can fish, camp, cycle, hunt or just enjoy the calculated, quality and sustainable rhythm of nature..."

The family shares a passion for the deaf, a cause that they support on an ongoing basis. Daneel sits on the governing body of the Carel du Toit Centre, where deaf people learn to speak, and is a founding member of Hear Us, an association supporting cochlear implants for the deaf.

Gerald Riedel

B.Compt (Hon), CA (Nam / SA)

After completing his audit articles, Gerald transferred to the tax division of PwC where he gained valuable experience in mergers and acquisitions, VAT and corporate and international tax.

Gerald oversees the finance function of Pointbreak, including risk management, information technology and business processes.

Gerald's wife, Almuth, is passionate about teaching music and the Riedels enjoy camping, cycling and traveling.

Gerald has a passion for assisting people to realise their academic goals.

Grant Straiton

B.Econ, Hons B.Com (Financial Management), H.Dip (Financial Markets).

PB Holdings SA

Grant's career in structured finance started at Mettle before joining Pointbreak in 2003. He focuses mostly on debt funding for Pointbreak in both Namibia and South Africa.

He was awarded national colours for surfing and also participated on the world circuit as an accredited surfing judge. Grant surfs, plays golf, enjoys fishing and has now taken to mountain biking as well. Grant and his family of wife Dayle and twin daughters Tyler and Lauren enjoy the outdoors.

Grant actively supports Dayle's involvement in charity work for their church, with one of the projects being to build and improve schools in underprivileged communities.

John Hamman

B.Acc,. B.Acc.(Hons), M Com.(Tax), CA (SA).

After completing his articles at PwC, John joined (what was then) Boland Bank and then Mettle, where he gained experience in Treasury accounting and risk management and corporate finance and management of unlisted investments respectively.

John is a founding member and joint chairman of Pointbreak, which he joined on a full time basis in 2003.

With 3 daughters and a son, John and Susan treasure spending time together, especially at places where one experiences the true value of nature, whether that's the sea, the wildlife, the desert or open blue skies.

John believes that it is very important to pursue a balanced approach towards one's work, family and the community. He serves on the governing body of Kenridge Primary School.

Monica Kolondo

B.Juris, LLB

PB Namibia Holdings

The experience that Monica gained working in corporate finance at the Namibian Stock Exchange and NedCapital has served her well in her current role as a founding shareholder and Managing Director of private equity company, Stimulus.

Monica also plays a positive role in the Namibian economy, serving on various Bodies and Commissions which are aimed at guiding national policy and formulation.

Monica has two children, a girl and a boy, who are constant reminders of the need to balance her work and life commitments. She is an avid squash player and runner. In terms of community involvement, Monica has a passion for financial education, regularly providing financial literacy training to youth groups, churches and NGO's.

Pieter Laubscher

B.Acc(Hons), CA (SA).

Pieter is a founding member of Pointbreak and is responsible for Pointbreak's investments.

Prior to joining Pointbreak, Pieter gained international exposure to corporate finance after being seconded to PwC's International Business Unit in Amsterdam. On returning to PwC's Johannesburg and, later, Cape Town office, Pieter got more experience with corporate transactions in areas such as mergers, acquisitions, restructures and disposals.

Pieter enjoys growing a business from start-up phase and seeing it evolve to a mature business. This is a process that Pieter has been involved with many times at Pointbreak, be that co-driving a private equity company such as April 27 or overseeing Pointbreak's investments.

Pieter is married to Tania (who actually designed the Pointbreak logo and corporate identity) and they have three children: Michael, Bruwer and Pieter. Kitesurfing is Pieter's outdoor passion but, in common with his colleagues, it's all about balance and family. He also enjoys surfing, fishing and a bit of mountainbiking.

Rein van Veen

B.Comm (Management Accounting, Hons B.Com (Management Accounting), C.I.M.A (Stage 4), Hons B. (Business Management & Admin), MBA and CFC (Chartered Financial Analyst).

Rein is one of the founders of Pointbreak, which was originally established as a private equity company. He then moved to Windhoek and helped to set up Stimulus, a black-owned private equity investment company. Rein currently heads Pointbreak's Asset Management arm.

Prior to joining Pointbreak, Rein gained in-depth experience in all facets of investment analysis and management through time spent at Investec Asset Management, where he managed portfolios such as fund administration, equity trading, investment analysis and portfolio management. He also gained experience at Price Forbes and PEP Stores and, while studying for his MBA, funded himself through making furniture.

Rein is an outdoors person and loves adventure. He enjoys mountainbiking, 4X4-ing and camping with Tania and their 3 children.

Tony Edmunds

B Com (UNISA), CAIB SA, Cert Program in Treasury Management (UNISA), Certified Financial Planner (CFP).

Tony's extensive banking experience in South Africa and Namibia has yielded experience and expertise in Treasury, Asset / Liability Management and securities trading. He has played a positive role in defining the Namibian financial landscape, having served on the Bankers Association of Namibia for many years and being instrumental in establishing the Namibian Stock Exchange.

Tony’s current portfolio is Pointbreak Wealth Management where he plans on fulfilling a dream of providing a transparent wealth, investment and cash management financial service to discerning clients. He is also passionate about educating people from all walks of life on investment and retirement planning.

Maggie and Tony have two sons, two daughters and many pets. The Edmunds family enjoys spending time together, whether that's at home or exploring the country. They have an appreciation for sport, music and the simple things in life.

Willem de Vos

B.Com (Actuarial), CFI, CFA

PB Holdings SA

Willem, responsible for the property investment arm of Pointbreak, joined the company after being an investment adviser for various UK and European pension funds with HBW and also being instrumental in starting Gryphon Asset Management. He was also a portfolio manager with Sanlam Asset Management specialising in equities, bonds and derivatives. This experience translates well into the Pointbreak wave analogy of understanding risk and probability.

Willem takes "quiet time out" by pushing himself to the limits while mountain biking. He is married to Peggy and they have three children - Calla, Lisa and Leon.

Willem supports a variety of causes, two of which are the distribution of bibles and contributing towards a Christian-based media channel.

William Marais

B.A., LLB (cum laude), Hons B.Com (Financial Management), Grad Dip (Taxation).

William is responsible for Pointbreak's Corporate Services.

His career prior to joining Pointbreak in 2002 included helping to start Boland Financial Services (now Mettle), corporate law at Jan S de Villiers & Son, corporate finance at PwC and Business Development in various companies within Naspers.

William's experience stretches through the agricultural, media, retail, financial services and property sectors and includes aspects such as valuations, acquisitions, sales, listings, unbundlings, restructurings and structured commercial lending arrangements.

William is married to Belinda and they have a daughter, Sharon. His recreational interests are mountain biking, golf and surfing.
